A few friends and I surfed at Diamond Head today. We all took longboards out and had some fun in onshore knee high surf at Cliffs. I’ve been wanting to take panoramic photos of Diamond Head for a while now and although the ocean was lumpy and bumpy, the small surf and relatively clean conditions gave me an opportunity to take a few photos from the surf break.

Most of the photos you see of world famous Diamond Head is normally taken from Waikiki, which provides the classic backdrop amongst rows of hotels fronting the beach. I always think it’s interesting to take different/unusual photos. Not many people get a chance to see this perspective of Diamond Head unless you surf out there. Enjoy!

I took this photo in unfavorable conditions at Kewalos. We had unusual Kona winds for a week straight which created bumpy conditions and a Kona wind swell. It’s so hard to get a panoramic photo from the water when you you’re bobbing up and down and dodging consistent swells. This was the first day the sky had somewhat cleared…prior to that we had over one week of overcast skies. Notice the lumpy texture of the water. Enjoy!

A couple of friends and I were smart enough to body surf Makapuu during one of the worst storms to hit Oahu all year. We heard on the weather report that thunderstorms and a flash flood warning was in effect but since it wasn’t raining yet, we decided to head up to Makapuu. There still wasn’t any rain when we got there and the winds were brisk straight off shore (rare for east Oahu). The surf was going off 2-4 foot (Hawaiian scale) and I was lucky enough to snap this photo before all hell broke loose. Enjoy!
